\b \cf4 \ATXht10150000 Scotland\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 is the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. It was built in the 1500s, but was largely reconstructed a century later. The ridge, known as the Royal Mile, that slopes downward from Edinburgh Castle, comes
to a majestic conclusion at Holyroodhouse, where Palace and Castle stand against the spectacular backdrop of Salisbury Crag. Founded on the site of a 12th century abbey, Holyroodhouse did not originally denote a friendly disposition towards the English
crown. It was built by James IV, who became King of Scotland in 1488. He actually invaded England in 1513, but was defeated and killed along with many other Scots at the Battle of Flodden in Northumberland. The palace also has associations with \b \cf4 \ATXht13121000 Mary Queen of Scots\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 and Bonnie\b \b0 Prince Charlie, the grandson of \b \cf4 \ATXht13161000 James II\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 who in 1745 won the support of the Scottish Highlanders and tried unsuccessfully to invade England.
